Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has issued an amended ITP (No. 2081-2019-040-03), pursuant to Section 2081(b) of the Fish and Game Code to Antonio Arturo Sieira Mucientes/Viracocha Winds, LLC.
The amended ITP includes adding western burrowing owl (Athene cunicularia hypugaea) as a Covered Species and the following Covered Activities: eviction (passive relocation) of non-nesting burrowing owls, nest disturbance during Project construction, temporary obstruction of unoccupied burrow entrances, burrow excavation, and injury or mortality of owls by vehicles or equipment during construction or operations. The amendment also includes incidental take of individual burrowing owls from the operation of up to 13 turbines in the form of mortality (“kill”) from operations of the wind turbines. In addition, the amendment includes an increase of the operational take limit for tricolored blackbird and revising the Project description to include larger wind turbine generators.
The Project will result in impacts to 113.2 acres of western burrowing owl habitat including temporary impacts to 79.96 acres; the Project will permanently remove 33.6 acres of habitat. The project is expected to result in incidental take of western burrowing owl, which is designated as a candidate species under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA). The ITP referenced above as issued by CDFW authorizes incidental take of species listed under CESA that may occur as a result of Project implementation.
