Document Description
The proposed project involves the widening of Bedford Canyon Wash from 30 feet to 95 feet to an approximate average toe of slope width of 100 feet, and average top of bank width of 190 feet. The Project includes construction of grade control structures, bank protection, bluff access road, bluff setback area, access ramps, and a debris basin. The Project will also remove the downstream debris basin and relocate it to the upstream portion of the Project. Project activities can result in adverse impacts to the on-site habitat that supports the Covered Species. Such impacts could result in: temporal losses, increased habitat fragmentation and edge effects; eventually leading to the Project’s incremental contribution to cumulative impacts (indirect impacts) in decreased food supply through changes in composition of floral nectar resources (starvation) and increased interaction with non-native honey bees (competition for food and space, introduction of disease, introduction of parasites). Lastly, a fire sparking as a result of battery or other equipment presence could result in burning or loss of habitat (change in vegetation composition) and food supply (change in resources). Individuals displaced due to habitat loss and degradation may be unable to survive in adjacent areas if these areas are at carrying capacity or are unsuitable for colonization.
