                Document Description

In response to discovering an intentional breach in the levee between Pond 3 and South Slough dug by unknown individuals, DFG proposes actions that will protect an existing water control structure (siphon) and relieve hydraulic pressure on the breach by opening another breach to Pond 3. The primary purpose of the emergency project is to protect the siphon structure adjacent to the breach by placing and driving sheetpiles throught the existing Pond 3 levee. In order to relieve some of the hydraulic pressure on the breach near the sipon, a second (and possible third) breach near the junction of the Napa River and Dutchman Slough (and on South Slough) will also be created. The siphon is the main conduit of water between Ponds 2 and 4 and is extremely important in the day-to day operations of the water delivery system and ultimately future salt pond restoration efforts.
