Document Description
The proposed project consists of the seismic upgrade of this five-story building in Fresno, and bring the building into compliance within acceptable risk levels. The proposed structural work includes, add new wall piers in four bays on each of the north and south sides of the building. The vertical extent of the new wall piers would be from the first floor to the roof on the north side and from the second floor to the roof on the south side. The project will add two bays of new infill shear walls in the basement and first floor. These walls will be dowelled into the existing columns and slabs, and would be aligned with the south perimeter wall above the second floor. These walls would be 12 inches thick and reinforced with two curtains of steel. Mechanical and electrical work on this project will be limited to relocation due to interference with the seismic work, or to coordination if the system components can remain in place. The addition of the shear walls to interior locations on the basement and first levels will require minor relocation of ventilation and air conditioning ductwork that pass through those points between the columns affected. The same will be true for a minor number of sprinkler and plumbing lines, as well as any small branch electrical or tele/data/com conduit.
