Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has issued an ITP (No. 1927-ITP-2024-083-06), pursuant to Section 1927.3 of the Fish and Game Code to Mitsubishi Cement Corporation. The Project involves development of two quarries (the South Quarry and the West Pit) as well as the construction of a temporary construction road and permanent haul road for mining limestone over 278.2 acres. Project activities will include clearing and grading of the site, excavation, vegetation removal, road construction, blasting, reclamation, and other activities (referred to as “Project Activities” where they occur within the Project Site). The development and mining of the South Quarry will take place over 120 years, and development of the West Pit is underway and anticipated to continue for decades. The Project will result in incidental take of 2,896 western Joshua tree (Yucca brevifolia), which is protected under the WJTCA and the California Endangered Species Act. The WJTCA ITP referenced above as issued by CDFW authorizes incidental take of western Joshua tree that may occur as a result of Project implementation.
